Each June we host our annual tournament fundraiser at Surfside Marina in Surfside Beach, Texas. This event grows each year and pays out a lot of money to area anglers. All proceeds after payouts go to the children for new toys.
This event includes cash payouts for largest fish in several categories including Kingfish, Ling, Mahi-Mahi and Red Snapper. This year boats may participate in two distinct classes, Open Class or Small Boat Class.
We do not have a early entry feature. All entrants must signup at the Captain's Meeting at Surfside Marina. Food and drinks will be available.
Friday June 11th - Captain's Meeting starts at 5:00 PM at Surfside Marina - One person from the boat must be at the meeting.
Saturday June 12th - Lines in starting at 5:00 AM
Scales open at Surfside Marina at 3:00 PM
Scales close at 5:00 PM
Awards ceremony at 6:00 PM
This year we will have two classes:
Open Class is for boats 27' and larger based upon manufacturer stated length.
Small Boat Class is for boats less than 27' manufacturer stated length.
NOTE: Any boat may enter the Open Class, regardless of length, but boats larger than 27' may not enter the Small Boat Class.
Boats may depart from any port and may leave anytime after the Captain's Meeting. Lines in time is 5:00 AM on Saturday the 13th. Anyone found to have been fishing for (or landing) tournament fish prior to the line-in time will be disqualified. Teams may fish for bait at any time. There is no official "lines-out" time but you must be in line for weigh-in at Surfside Marina by 5:00 PM. All boats must notify tournament directors that they are in the ICW ready to weigh no later than 5:00 or face disqualification. VHF channel 68 will be used.
Rod & Reel only. No other means of taking fish may be used. All fish will be inspected by the weighmaster and any fish found outside normal conditions will be ineligible for entry. Final consideration for entry of any fish is at the discretion of the weighmaster and tournament directors.
Tournament fish include King Mackerel, Mahi-Mahi, Ling and Red Snapper. This is based upon season availability and open season dates. There will also be a "Surprise" fish category which will be announced at the Captain's Meeting.
The King Mackerel winners receive 50% of the total tournament entry fees with 50% going to the Toy Run. Payout will be 70% to 1st place, 20% to 2nd place and 10% to 3rd place. This is based upon the weight of your heaviest King Mackerel.
Pots for Mahi-Mahi, Red Snapper and Ling will be separate and will pay 75% to the winners and 25% to the Toy Run. Payout will be 75% to 1st place and 25% to 2nd place. You are only allowed to weigh one fish of each species.
Pot for the "Surprise" fish will pay 75% to the winner and 25% to the Toy Run. Fish announced after all entries have been received at the Captain's Meeting. Only pays 1st place and only one fish of the species is allowed to be weighed.
Payouts for the main tournament King Mackerel are "Per Class" meaning there will be separate winners for the Open Class and the Small Boat Class. Pots and "Surprise" fish are not based on class and do not have separate payouts.
The Calcutta is a type of auction where you bid on the team you think will win the King Mackerel event. Anyone may bid...team or not. If you win the bid and your boat wins the event you will receive the prize money. The Calcutta is based upon the combined weight of up to two King Mackerel. Only two King Mackerel may be weighed by any boat.
If you feel that you may be outbid on your own boat you may purchase Calcutta Insurance. This insurance allows you to collect 50% of the Calcutta payout from the actual winner. Calcutta Insurance is non -refundable and all proceeds go to the Toy Run.
King Mackerel Main Tournament: $100.00 per person on boat. No exceptions.
Pots: $100.00 per fish.
"Surprise" Fish: $100.00
Calcutta Insurance: $150.00
Trophies will be awarded for 1st through 3rd place for each class. Awards are based upon the heaviest King Mackerel weighed by each boat. The Senior, Lady or Junior does not have to be the person who actually caught the fish.
In the event of inclement weather on the tournament day the event will be held the following day (Sunday) with the same schedule. If the following day is also bad then the tournament may be either rescheduled or cancelled. If the event is cancelled then all entry fees will be returned to participants. This is a "Captain's Choice" event which means it is ultimately up to the individual captains whether they wish to fish or not. Tournament will only be rescheduled or cancelled if weather calls for a small craft warning or if tournament director feels that safety may be impacted by proceeding.
